ashes to ashes

30 X 24cm Oil on canvas. Greenwich Peninsular.  Originally Tunnel Refineries and later The Syral Sugar Factory . It closed in Sept 2009. Whilst coming back from Woolwich I caught sight of this just before I entered the Blackwall tunnel. I doubled back to stop and stare. The demolition had taken a rest for the day, the sun had just set and a strange light enveloped the site. It was a magical last chance to see moment. Like watching a sinking ship. I returned two days later for more of the same at sun rise, but it had become a field of crushed brick.

Cement Works Battersea Power Station London

20 X 50 cm from a sketch on site. I wanted to see what it looked liked in a photo. Don't think I'm quite done with it yet.

HASHIMA The island in Japan personifying decay

A very special place.
Deserted in a matter of weeks and left alone for 20 years.
