The painting the elves wouldn't touch

Friday.
The last of the natural light has just gone.
Even though I have recently sketched out a fair few canvas ready for painting I just had an extra flash of energy to do something I should have done ages ago.
I had spent far too long on a particular painting.
I had planned it out, sketched it out, painted it, changed the tonal range, painted more, didnt like the edges in the clouds. Oiled it up feathered the cloud edges, changed the colour of the  foreground painted in the detail of the structure added the shadows then changed them and then changed them back again. Let it dry over a couple of days and then changed the foreground colour and tone again. scrubbed back the structure, repainted it. About three days work. Then I stood back and realised it was a horror show and was never going to work.
It was just wrong. but in the hope I was just tired of it. I set it aside. Maybe the night elves would come and make it better or I would come up with the inspiration to tackle it again another day.
It has been sitting in the corner of the studio tutting at me for a few months now.

So with the little bit of Friday left I painted the whole flippin' canvas white.
Instead of feeling " what a waste of time that was" I am now bathed in a lovely feeling of relief. Ah blessed relief.

I recommend it. Get that set-a-side-canvas-the-eves-wouldn't-even-touch and wipe it out!
